Community
Services
|
|
Community Services was created for the students as an
introduction to working in the community.
This is a way for
adults with disabilities to get involved in the community
through paid employment or volunteering.
Some ways in which students volunteer
include: delivering lunches for Meals on Wheels, operating the movie projector or logging in returned books at
our local libraries, and working with
children at an elementary school. This
program also assists students with vocational job placements.
|
|
All these experiences build self-esteem and improve social
skills while allowing students
to explore areas of personal interest.
There are now 36 Loveland students
volunteering their time to others. It means a great deal to the students to know
that they are making a difference in people's lives and
making positive contributions to the community.
ACE Class
Designed to develop
skills such as filling out applications, interviewing,
getting along with supervisors and co-workers, and understanding good
worker characteristics in preparation for obtaining
supported employment in the community.

Supported Employment
Designed to help individuals with developmental
disabilities interested
in obtaining employment in the community.
A “job coach” assists an individual to find
work, filling out applications, resumes &
interviews. Upon
employment, the job coach works side-by-side with the
individual until the job becomes learned and then provides support as needed.
Volunteering
Designed along the same model as Supported Employment,
this program helps those individuals wanting to “give
back” to their community opportunities to volunteer. A “volunteer coach” will assess individuals’
interests and abilities, match them with other
organizations, and work side-by-side with the
students until they
feel comfortable with their jobs. |

Explorers
For those individuals working in the community, Loveland Center helps facilitate this club, made up of all
those individuals working in the community.
Explorers gives opportunities for adults with development
disabilities to “enjoy the fruits of their labor”
by participating in social activities such as going to
the movies, out to restaurants, and the county fair.
Loveland Center has many areas in which you
can volunteer such as: assisting in the fitness
class, tutoring students in reading, mentoring
students in computer lab or workshop,
and helping supported
living residents with some everyday needs. Please call or come by to learn how you can become more
involved with Loveland.
